Monte del Sol's Charter was initially granted for five years in December 1999. The school opened in August 2000 under the leadership of founding Head Learner, Tony Gerlicz. That year, 121 students were enrolled in seventh and eighth grades, and every year since then a new 7th grade of 60 students has entered the school. By the 2004-2005 school year we had a full complement of 360 students in grades 7 through 12. The Class of 2005 was our first graduating class.
When Monte del Sol opened in the Fall of 2000 classes took place in the downtown Santa Fe Boys & Girls Club. In January 2001, we moved into the Solana Center on West Alameda Street where we stayed for two and a half years. During that period, we designed and built our own campus in the Nava Ade neighborhood on the southwestern edge of town and moved in at the beginning of the 2003-2004 school year.
Monte del Sol's Charter was renewed in 2004 and again in 2009 for a further five years by the Santa Fe School District.
