BOARD OF GOVERNORS 2011 to 2012
KEN JOSEPH -- Board Chair kjoseph@montedelsol.org Ken moved to Santa Fe in 1979 after spending a year traveling in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize with his family. He and his wife, Deena, have four daughters including one Monte del Sol alumnae and two current students. Ken is the President of Office Court Companies, Inc., a commercial real estate development firm. He also provides development and management consulting services through his consulting company. With passions for cooking, nomadic travel, mountain biking and music, the Joseph family can often be found visiting the exotic and the mundane. Ken is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School of Communications. He has served on the Governing Board since 2007.
ANNE KUZAVA, MD. FAAP -- Vice Chair akuzava@montedelsol.org Dr. Kuzava has been a full time pediatrician in the Indian Health Service since 1987 working in diverse and remote locations including the Navajo Reservation and Ojibwe Bands along Lake Superior, and for the past 16 years at the Santa Fe Indian Hospital. She volunteers as Medical Director for the New Mexico School for The Deaf, and also volunteered with UNICEF for 20 years. She currently serves on the Board of the Santa Fe Youth Symphony. Anne and her husband, Jim, have three children, the youngest of whom, Gabriel, will graduate with Monte del Sol's Class of 2010. The Kuzava's love Monte del Sol's culture and ethic of world peace and humanitarianism and its exemplary practices of green building and organic gardening. They enjoy wilderness backpacking, organic gardening and tree planting. Dr. Kuzava joined the Board in 2009.
MATTHEW SMITH -- Board Treasurer msmith@montedelsol.org Matthew has lived in New Mexico since 1986 and works as a nurse at the New Mexico School for the Deaf where he administers health services. He has been a Monte del Sol parent since Monte del Sol's founding year--his son, Dylan, graduated with the Class of 2006 and his daughter, Juliet, will graduate with the Class of 2012. Matt and his family live in an active/passive solar and wind-powered home which they built themselves. Located south of Santa Fe, they have twenty chickens, two dogs and three cats. Matthew has also been a Monte del Sol mentor in the area of mountain biking and has been assistant coach for girls' soccer and track since 2010.
BRETT FRAUENGLASS -- Board Secretary bfrauenglass@montedelsol.org Brett has undergraduate degrees from St. John's College and the University of New Mexico. After teaching high school in Santa Fe, Pecos and Tokyo, he studied architecture at the Boston Architectural Center and designed schools in the Boston area for ten years. He now owns his own practice, i.e.architecture, which specializes in sustainable design. He is also an instructor at Ski Santa Fe and co-director of their White Tornados program for local youth. Brett and his wife, Ondine, have four sons: Clark (MdS Class of 2011), Lyle (two years at MdS, then accepted to NMSA theater, Class of 2014), Hans (MdS Class of 2017), and Jean (future MdS student, Class of 2019). Brett joined the Governing Board in 2009.
DAVID CARR, AIA -- Member dcarr@montedelsol.org David was born in Albuquerque and grew up in Santa Fe and Belen. Upon graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1976, he came back to Santa Fe and has been involved in various community organizations over the past 30 years. He joined Monte del Sol's Governing Board in 2007 and is currently the chair of the Monte del Sol facilities committee responsible for the design and construction of the proposed new gymnasium and multi-purpose facility. He is also a member of Santa Fe Public Schools' Citizen Review Committee which is responsible for the school facilities master plan and bond issue implementation. David is employed as an architect with Los Alamos National Laboratory. He and his wife, Sabrina Pratt, are proud parents of two sons, Wes who attends the Masters Program (Class of 2012), and Barret, MdS Class of 2014.
CATHERINE HATHAWAY -- Member chathaway@montedelsol.org Catherine grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended Booker T. Washington High School, which has since been ranked one of the top 100 high schools in the nation. She received her B.A. from Duke University, with a double major in Studio Design (Visual Arts) and Psychology. While living in Washington, D.C., Catherine worked for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Associates Program and was part of a team of painting restorers who refurbished the murals of the Library of Congress. After studying art history at Southern Methodist University, she moved to Santa Fe in 1992 and worked in the gallery business for fourteen years. In 2006, Catherine received her teaching certificate through the alternative licensure program at Santa Fe Community College. This is her sixth year teaching fourth grade at Turquoise Trail Charter School and her third year as a parent at Monte del Sol.
CASSANDRA REID -- PTSA representative creid@montedelsol.org Cassandra lived in Albuquerque for 17 years before moving to the Santa Fe area in 2005. She is an artist who works in the realm of public art, creating large, handmade tile mosaics in collaboration with communities. She has exhibited her sculptures in galleries nationally and internationally. Since receiving her MFA from UNM in 1996, she has worked in schools, treatment centers and neighborhoods to create large mosaics with the help of students, parents, grandparents, inmates, teachers and many others. She has also been active in community organizations on issues of education, culture and environmental justice. She enjoys hiking, going to galleries or just goofing around at home with her family of people, horses and cats. Her son is a member of Monte del Sol's Class of 2014 and her stepdaughter graduated in 2011. Even before she moved to Santa Fe she hoped that her children would one day attend Monte del Sol and she is grateful to be part of this school community.
ROBERT JESSEN -- Faculty representative arjessen@montedelsol.org Robert joined Monte del Sol's faculty to teach Spanish in 2009 following ten years teaching Latin American politics at the College of Santa Fe. Robert earned his PhD from Northwestern University studying relations betwen Tarahumara Indians in Mexico and their Mestizo neighbors. He infuses his Spanish classes with the Rassias Method he taught as an undergraduate at Dartmouth College and honed as a Spanish and French teacher at a Maine boarding school. Robert lives in Santa Fe with his Chihuahuenese wife, Mirna, and their two sons, Cesar and Turis.
SHARI OSGOOD -- Faculty representative sosgood@montedelsol.org Shari joined Monte del Sol in 2003 and teaches Japanese and Algebra. She holds an undergraduate degree in Asian Studies with a minor in Engineering from the University of California. She lived, studied and worked in Japan for nearly nine years. Most of that time was spent as a securities analyst on the Tokyo stock exchange, although she also worked in the art market. Shari moved to Santa Fe to get a Master's Degree from St. John's College, worked briefly in real estate investment, and started her own business. She has been teaching and translating Japanese for more than 15 years in New Mexico including at UNM, LANL, Sandia Labs, SFCC and now Monte del Sol. Someday, she hopes to get her PhD and maybe join the Foreign Service! She has a son in elementary school and a stepdaughter at UNM.
