MONTE DEL SOL CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS 2009 to 2010 (please note that school year 2010 to 2011 updates will be added) Mr. KEN JOSEPH -- CHAIR OF THE BOARD kjoseph@montedelsol.org Ken moved to Santa Fe in 1979 after spending a year traveling in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize with his family. He and his wife, Deena, have four daughters including one Monte del Sol alumnae and two current students. Ken is the President of Office Court Companies, Inc., a commercial real estate development firm. He also provides development and management consulting services through his consulting company. With passions for cooking, nomadic travel, mountain biking and music, the Joseph family can often be found visiting the exotic and the mundane. Ken is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School of Communications. Sr. CARLOS O. RUIZ- VICE CHAIR cruiz@montedelsol.org Carlos was born in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico and graduated from the University of Veracruz with a BSC in Civil Engineering, followed by a Rural Civil Engineering degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He immigrated to the USA in 1977 and has lived in Santa Fe ever since. He is a civil engineer with NM Dept. of Transportation as the NMDOT value engineering coordinator. Carlos has also been a professional translator for over 25 years with both local and international clients. His son, Ariel, graduated with Monte del Sol's Class of 2006 and his younger son Emilio graduated with the Class of 2009. Ms. TERRY WILLIAMS-KEFFER - SECRETARY twilliams@montedelsol.org Terry is the mother of a Monte del Sol graduate and a Senior. She is the owner of Westwind Travel, Chair of Santa Fe's famous, Fourth of July Pancakes on the Plaza event, and past Chair of United Way of Santa Fe County. Ms. GAIL RACHOR grachor@montedelsol.org Gail came to Santa Fe three years ago from Michigan where she was a long-time teacher, educational consultant and university professor of teacher education. She has a Masters and Bachelors degree from the University of Michigan and a Doctorate in Education from Wayne State University. Gail was active in many professional organizations in Michigan and served on a charter school board there as well as with many other community agencies. Gail has been on the board of Esperanza Shelter and is active in fundraising for them as well as serving on the board for Monte del Sol. Mr. DAVID CARR, AIA dcarr@montedelsol.org David was born in Albuquerque and grew up in Santa Fe and Belen. Upon graduating from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1976, he came back to Santa Fe and has been involved in various community organizations over the past 30 years. He currently is the chair of the Monte del Sol facilities committee responsible for the design and construction of the proposed new gymnasium and multi-purpose facility. He is also a member of Santa Fe Public Schools' Citizen Review Committee which is responsible for the school facilities master plan and bond issue implementation. David is employed as an architect with Los Alamos National Laboratory. David and his wife, Sabrina Pratt, are proud parents of two sons who attend Monte del Sol-- 10th grader, Wes, whose passions include bicycles, glass blowing and photography and Barret in 8th grade whose interests include music, French and photography. Mr. MATTHEW SMITH msmith@montedelsol.org Matthew has lived in New Mexico for 21 years and works as a nurse at the New Mexico School for the Deaf where he administers health services. He has been a Monte del Sol parent since our founding year--his son, Dylan, graduated with the Class of 2006 and his daughter, Juliet, is in 10th Grade this year. Matt and his family live in an active/passive solar and wind-powered home which they built themselves. Located south of Santa Fe, they have twenty chickens, two dogs and three cats. Matthew has also been a Monte del Sol mentor in the area of mountain biking. Ms. MICHELLE ROSEN HATCHER mrosen@montedelsol.org Michelle is a veteran educator with almost thirty years experience in a wide variety of schools and programs both in New York City and Santa Fe. She is currently an Assistant Principal at Santa Fe High School--the principal for 9th grade and special education. Michelle holds administrative licensure for the state of New Mexico and recently completed the Transformational Leadership program at Highlands University. Michelle has received two teacher Fulbright scholarships during her career which has enabled her to travel and study in India and Japan. She believes strongly in the Senge model of schools as collaborative learning environments. Michelle has an 8th grade son and a 11th grade daughter at Monte del Sol. Mr. ROBERT JESSEN -- Faculty Representative -- Faculty Representative Ms. ANNE KUZAVA MD. FAAP -- Dr. Kuzava has been a full time pediatrician in the Indian Health Service since 1987 working in diverse and remote locations including the Navajo Reservation and Ojibwe Bands along Lake Superior, and for the past 16 years at the Santa Fe Indian Hospital. She volunteers as Medical Director for the New Mexico School for The Deaf, and also volunteered with UNICEF for 20 years. She currently serves on the Board of the Santa Fe Youth Symphony. Anne and her husband, Jim, have three children, the youngest of whom, Gabriel, will graduate with Monte del Sol's Class of 2010. The Kuzava's love Monte del Sol's culture and ethic of world peace and humanitarianism and its exemplary practices of green building and organic gardening. They enjoy wilderness backpacking, organic gardening and tree planting. Dr. Kuzava joined the Board in 2009. Ms. STEPHANIE RIGGS -- bio to come Mr. BRETT FRAUENGLASS bfrauenglass@montedelsol.org Brett came to Santa Fe in 1981 to attend St. John's College. He is a graduate of UNM/Santa Fe Public Schools Internship Program and has taught in New Mexico and Japan for five years. Brett received his Masters of Architecture from Boston Architectural College, completing their internship based program while working full time as an architectural designer. He is a Member of the American Institute of Architects, the US Green Building Council and NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. He is currently an architect with Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, one of the state's largest and most diverse design firms, specializing in sustainable design. Brett is also a PSIA certified ski instructor and teaches weekends at Ski Santa Fe. He and his wife, Ondine, have four sons, two currently attending Monte del Sol.
