Athletics

Monte del Sol Dragons and Lady Dragons rule !  We have a strong, competitive and exciting athletics program building on success year after year offering boys' and girls' soccer, girls' volleyball, boys' and girls' basketball, track and baseball.  We currently do not offer cheerleading or football though do offer swimming in some years.  (See list of coaches and directions to home games below).  Dragon Logo

Despite not having a home field, our boys' soccer team has qualified for State several years and in the last two years, our girls' team has been one victory away from qualifying. This year, we made the State Soccer Championships as number 11 seed.

Our Varsity boys' basketball program has qualified for State four times and has always attracted quality atheletes.  Our girls' program is strong and proactive, poised for success.  Additionally, we consistently build our Middle School and JV programs to prepare our athletes for Varsity play.

Our volleyball girls are hardworking and focused. Though they have not yet qualified for post-season play they now believe that they are ready to turn the corner.

Last season, our girls' Track & Field team broke a state record in the 400m relay and we are defending State champs in both the 400m and the 800m relay.  Our girls came within seven points of bringing home a team state title.

Our Baseball team was on an 18-game win streak and ended the season with a 22-3 overall record two years ago.  We are now in a rebuilding phase and working diligently to expand the program.

Athletics are open to all and there is a "no cut" policy, meaning all students who try out for a team will play to some degree.  For more details and up-to-date game information, contact Athletics Director, Frankie Lucero on 505-231-3374 or flucero@montedelsol.org

As we do not yet have our own gym or soccer field, many practices and home games take place either at Genoveva Chavez Community Center, Ft. Marcy Complex or the Municipal Recreation Complex (MRC) fields off Hwy. 599 depending on the sport and season. (see directions below or go to MapQuest or Google Maps) Our Basketball team was first in the District in 03-04, qualified for regionals in 04--05 and state in 05-06.  Go Dragons !

Now in our tenth year, we are in the design phase of a gym on our adjacent four acres and are actively seeking funding to begin construction.  If you love school sports and would like to support our athletics programs in any way please contact Monte del Sol Board President, Ken Joseph, at kjoseph@montedelsol.org
