High School Curriculum
An Integrated Course of Academic Studies
The Monte del Sol School believes that continuous learning is a key to leading a rich and fulfilling life. We believe learning never ends and that those who are learners are those who will succeed.
Our belief is that all students need to pursue post-secondary school education appropriate to their education levels, abilities and desires. Hence, the mission and purpose of MdS Guidance Program is to provide options for students that will allow them to maximize their learning in a post-secondary environment. We believe in preparing students to succeed in whatever environments they choose and that we will encourage all students to reach for their potential in those environments. These environments include four-year colleges and universities appropriate to the students' educational and philosophical desire and fit; two-year institutions of higher learning; a vocational/technical/artistic post secondary institution. We believe that education happens in a variety of settings and hence multiple pathways will be part of the guidance and counseling process. Each student will receive guidance and counseling throughout their high schools years to assure wise decisions are made regarding their post-secondary school plans.
The following graduation requirements for Monte de Sol School were implemented beginning in the 2001-2002 school year. These requirements will have on-going review and assessment by students, parents and staff.
A Four-Year Path Through The High School
A Note About our Courses: Our curriculum revolves around the Essential Question of 'Where/How do I fit into the world?' All our courses provide a framework in which students grapple with that question.
We have accelerated classes in mathematics and other languages; AP (Advanced Placement) courses are scheduled in History and Science with additional AP courses scheduled in English and Mathematics in the senior year. We utilize seminar, interactive and discussion oriented instruction in nearly all our classes.
